In the Bible, the sea was a common metaphor for chaos. The ancients could not predict the weather, storms, and the direction of the currents. They did not know what mysteries were underneath the surface of the waters. For them, the sea was unpredictable and chaotic.
For many of us, life feels a lot like the sea. It can be unpredictable and chaotic. We have no idea what is coming around the corner. What hardships may life throw at us?
Both Jonah and Job endured significant hardship in their lives. Neither was quite ready for what life threw at them. And yet, they both reacted to the hardship in a very different way.
What might we learn from their example when it comes enduring the hardship of our lives?
